What sort of colonic hydrotherapy system does Inside Health operate?
We use the LIBBE system, which is state of the art and allows you to relax and maintain your privacy. LIBBE is FDA approved and TGA approved and registered. Colonic hydrotherapy is a safe, gentle internal bath using gravity fed, warm, purified water infused into the colon for up to 40 minutes. The LIBBE system is an open system, which means you are not releasing into a tube, but rather into an open space (much like sitting on a normal toilet).
What does a colonic hydrotherapy appointment involve at Inside Health?
Before you go in: As a new client to Inside Health, you need to allow 1-½ hours for your colonic hydrotherapy appointment. It is helpful to arrive 10 minutes early to allow time to fill out the required health questionnaire. We will check the details to ensure there are no contraindications preventing the procedure and we are happy to answer any queries you may have and discuss with you the frequency of sessions and how we can best support you.
Preparation in the room: You are left in private to remove your clothing and prepare for the colonic session. We provide you with a T-shirt to wear for the session in place of your own upper clothing. You will be naked from the waist down but will always remain covered in the presence of the colonic assistant – retaining your dignity is our priority.
We initially take you through the procedure and make sure you are comfortable with the system before leaving you on your own to prepare yourself and recline on the specially designed padded LIBBE colonic table, which is also a fully functional toilet, complete with extractor fan. You will gently self-insert the single use, pencil-thin rectal tube 2- 3cm into your rectum. Then once you have draped yourself, you call us back into the room to commence the session. We use medical standards of hygiene and disposable equipment to ensure safety.
Warmed, filtered, and UV treated water, will be gravity fed through the system and into your rectum via the rectal tube. Each release is a natural response by your colon to expel faecal matter as it fills and triggers the peristaltic action of the colons muscles. Because of the viewing tube connected to the system, you will be able to see what comes out and will see for yourself what has been burdening your body. As a client, you can see how effective colonic hydrotherapy is at removing impacted waste and faecal plaque from the colon. Most people comment on how ‘light’ they feel afterwards. There is no need to get up and leave the system at any time. You can remain in a comfortable position throughout the session.
We will give guidance and monitor your comfort and the equipment periodically throughout the session and there is a call button should you need assistance at any time.
Will it be embarrassing?
Our practitioners are highly trained and your dignity and comfort is always our priority. You will remain covered and the insertion of the rectal tube is done by you in private. The system includes an extractor fan so there is no odour.
Will the procedure hurt?
Rarely. Sometimes the muscles of the colon contract, which may feel like cramping or gas with some pressure in the rectum. This can happen in the early stages of the colonic procedure and we find that generally, the more relaxed a client is about the procedure, the more comfortable they are. The procedure can be very relaxing with some people almost falling asleep!
Does one cleansing completely empty the colon?
Not usually, many of us have as much as 5kgs or more of impacted faeces in our colon. This faeces is hardened and has probably been there for years so usually requires a series of colonic sessions to breakdown and remove it. Therefore, it is important to be patient when having colonic hydrotherapy.
How many sessions do I need and how often should I have them?
Everybody’s needs are different and so at Inside Health as well as offering single sessions, we offer a range of pre-paid packages of 3, 5 or 10 sessions at discounted rates. Our aim as Naturopathic Colonic Therapists is to ensure you experiences the best results possible. Generally, people will obtain the best results by having a series of colonics and ensuring that at least the first few are within a week of each other to further capitalise on the effects of the previous session i.e. one session per week or slightly closer if your timetable can accommodate that.
Each colonic hydrotherapy session will vary from the last as various lifestyle factors come into play and we often offer additional recommendations alongside colonic hydrotherapy.
Will it wash away all the bacteria, even the good?
Bacteria, both good and bad are eliminated everyday with normal bowel movements. It is a natural process to lose bacteria via the bowel. Colonic hydrotherapy helps to promote the natural bacterial pH balance in the colon, allowing the beneficial bacteria to flourish more effectively. To further capitalize on this action, we recommend a course of probiotics to assist the colon in establishing the correct balance, especially if you are having a series of colonics.
Is it only good for constipation problems?
Colonic hydrotherapy has been reported to help with a wide range of health conditions:
- Gentle detoxification
- Skin conditions
- Feeling younger
- Weight loss (through improved digestion)
- Improved posture
- Relief from lower back pain
- Reduced headaches/migraines
- Improved bowel function
- Reduced bloating/gas
- Sinus drainage and
- Loosening of mucous in the lungs
- Body Odour
- Chronic fatigue
- Irritable bowel
- Joints aches
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Muscle pain
- Parasite infestations
Water is readily absorbed during the procedure through the colon and this rehydrates the body. This is why people often report unexpected beneficial effects, which are seemingly not related only to the colon.
Is colonic hydrotherapy suitable for everybody?
Colonic hydrotherapy is not recommended if you have:
- A serious or severe condition of the digestive system, colon, heart or kidneys
- Pregnant, especially the first and third trimesters
- Are severely anaemic,
- It is best to wait 3-months after any surgery requiring general anaesthetic.
If you are in doubt, consult with one of our practitioners and/or your health care professional beforehand.
How does it differ from an enema?
Using an enema, you are missing most of the colon. An enema usually only manages to involve the first portion of the colon closest to the anus (the sigmoid). During colonic hydrotherapy, the water travels all the way through the 1.5m of the colon to provide maximum effectiveness in any cleansing programme. As you are on the system for around 40 minutes, your colon will repeatedly be filling and emptying several times and loosening faecal matter throughout the entire session. This action is effective in reducing stagnation and helps to promote better bowel regularity in the long term.
How can colonic hydrotherapy also be a beauty therapy?
We often observe the appearance enhancing benefits of this therapy in our client’s faces after a session. We notice eyes become more moist and ‘sparkle’ and skin tone is improved. As one of the colons functions is the electrolyte control of body fluids, your whole body benefits from Colonic Hydrotherapy. Water entering the colon is readily absorbed through the colon walls and into blood and lymph, which in turn gently hydrates and supports all organs of the body. We call it the “Internal Facial”.
How do I prepare for a Vibrosaun?
Prior to your appointment ensure that you have drunk plenty of fluids (preferably filtered water or herbal tea) and have a light meal or snack about 1 hour before your session. Removing all make-up and personal care products just before the sauna will encourage the most effective detoxification through your skin – you don’t want to be absorbing any of the toxins from your skincare products.
Ladies may wish to bring a comb and hair tie for longer hair. A selection of aromatherapy oils, certified natural body wash, and towels are provided. You are welcome to bring your own relaxing CD to listen to while in the Vibrosaun.
Once you have had full instruction on what to do, you are left alone in complete privacy for the session. You will be completely naked inside the sauna due to the amount of perspiring your body will be doing.
It’s best not to plan a busy day after your Vibrosaun session, to maximize the relaxing effects of this therapy.
How long will the Vibrosaun take?
When booking an appointment for a Vibrosaun allow up to an hour. This includes approximately 40 minutes for the sauna and 15 minutes for a sufficient cool down time and shower.
